Sergio Vatta is the godfather of youth coaching in Italy. He developed and put into practice a poetic approach to the game while coaching the Torino FC youth team from 1976 to 1991 and the Italian Youth National teams from 1991 to 1997. Along the way, developed such players as Dino Baggio, Diego Fuser, Gianluigi Buffon, and Francesco Totti.
His theories ushered in a whole new approach to sport education, emphasizing a strong focus on the personal and social aspects of the players. The Dream Coach weaves Vatta's story into a discourse about the game, about learning, and about the dreams of children.

We can never understand how a child is by his answers and questions, but to see him play we can understand everything about him ... but he must play free ..." - Sergio Vatta
